Since 2006, the Junior League of Fort Collins has worked to address the issue of childhood hunger in Northern Colorado. Through its Hunger Initiative, presented by Kaiser Permanente, the Junior League partners with the Food Bank for Larimer County and its Kids Link program to provide snacks to schools that serve children in need. During the 2016-2017 program year, Junior League members delivered more than 150,000 healthy snacks to children in need.
The program coordinates with teachers, counselors and outreach workers to provide individually wrapped snacks to help a hungry child maintain focus throughout the day. As part of the partnership, the Food Bank procures and stores the snacks while League funds the program, fills orders and delivers them to area schools.
Kids Link is available to qualifying schools throughout Larimer County. To be eligible, 50 percent or more of the school’s student population must qualify for free and reduced meals.
